The course is designed to be completed in up to one (1) day, giving you a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

What Will You Learn?

  • Plan and prepare for telescopic materials handler operations: Interpret documentation. Clarify work requirements. Assess risk and hazards. Select and wear PPE. Apply signage in line with work procedures. Choose required telescopic materials handler equipment or attachments. Coordinate and communicate on-site activities with onsite parties.
  • Operate telescopic materials handler in line with established requirements: Conduct pre-start checks and start up checks. Ensure control, brakes, attachments and serviceability and record / report faults. Assess site hazards. Operate the handler as per site conditions and procedures.
  • Attach, secure, lift, carry and place materials to complete work activity: Use communication methods. Communicate with the dogman to assess load weight. Communicate with dogman to ensure safe working load and the appropriate lifting gear has been selected and attached. Locate machinery to ensure stable and effective shift of materials. Shift the load safely and effectively, using hand, audible and communication signals. Park up, shut down, secure and carry out post operational inspection of equipment.
  • Select, remove, fit and use attachments for a telescopic materials handler: Select, fit, test, and use handler attachments in line with procedures. Remove, clean and store attachment in line with procedures.
  • Relocate the telescopic materials handler: Prepare machine and equipment for relocation. Transport machine and equipment safely between worksites, observing relevant site and traffic management requirements.
  • Conduct housekeeping activities: Clean the work area. Manage and report hazards. Complete/ file necessary documentation.

Course Structure and Assessment

Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and written or verbal questioning.

This comprehensive assessment process ensures you are fully competent in all aspects of operating a telehandler before being awarded your qualification.

Licensing and Certification

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:
