Licence to Operate a Boom Type Elevating Work Platform (Boom Length 11m or more) is for participants to gain the necessary skills to plan, prepare and safely operate a mobile boom type elevated work platform (EWP) with a boom length over 11m.

A boom-type elevating work platform is a telescoping, hinged, or articulated device, or a combination of these, that supports a platform to elevate personnel, equipment, and materials.

Participants who are successful in the completion of this EWP training course will be at an advantage to secure jobs within the industrial, mining, oil and gas sectors.

How Is the Course Delivered?

The TLILIC0005 course is delivered through face-to-face training, on site at your preferred suitable location, ensuring you gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

The course is designed to be completed in up to two (2) days, giving you a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

What Will You Learn?

  • Planning the Task: Review instructions, gather and interpret safety and workplace information. Work area is assessed for suitability for operating the EWP. EWP capabilities are established for loads and work requirements. Identify hazards, risk controls measures and inspect the paths for operating the EWP. Traffic management plans are implemented, appropriate communications procedures are identified and work is carried out in accordance with workplace procedures.
  • Prepare for work/task: Confirm workplan clarity through consultation. Verify risk controls for hazards. Safety equipment such as PPE are inspected and fitted. Carry out prestart checks and report any defects. EWP is started checked for abnormal noises, placed into position and stabilised as per work instructions. Conduct Operational Checks from the base and report any defects. All platform controls are located and tested with any defects reported. EWP logbook is inspected and completed accordingly. Environmental conditions are assessed to determine the operation of the EWP. Perform work / task: Implement hazard control measures. EWP is safely located and safely position as per work instructions. Working gear, tools are secured. EWP is operated as per procedures, Unplanned and unsafe situations are respond to. All communication signals are followed. EWP platform is accessed and egressed. EWP is parked, switched off and isolated.
  • Pack Up: Conduct post-operation checks. retract, lower and secure EWP boom. Disconnect safety equipment, apply locks/brakes, stow stabilisers, and shut down EWP all in line with work procedures.

Course Structure and Assessment

Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and written or verbal questioning.

This comprehensive assessment process ensures you are fully competent in all aspects of operating an EWP before being awarded your qualification.

Licensing and Certification

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:

High Risk Training Academy (HRTA), deliver and assess this course under a third-party agreement with Harness Training RTO #40521.

Certificates are issued by Harness Training after all documentation has been submitted and course fees paid. Harness issue your certificate upon successful completion of your course, typically within 7-10 days.
